Unknown Vintage 3 faced dolls

I have 2 different versions of  3 face dolls, which I suspect must have been kind of popular in the early 1960's, as mine are definitely not the only type of 3 face doll made back then.

I have seen 2 other examples, but they do seem to be quite rare nonetheless, and no one I've asked seems to know very much about them at all, neither does Google! so I'd appreciate any info anyone has on this pair.

Enough preamble ... Here's my two:

Vintage 3 faced standing Doll.

Here's what I know about her...

She has 3 faces which you bring to the front by turning the little hair patterned topknot on her head.

Her outfit looks to be original or at least made for her as it has a split on top to allow her topknot to poke through.

She stands around 8 inches tall and due to the restrictive nature of her outfit, she cannot sit down!

Other than that I'm clueless lol so would love some info if anyone has any?

Vintage 3 faced Native / Eskimo? Sitting Baby Toy.

Made in Hong Kong circa. 1960.

She's made of rubber &  plastic.

She's 4.5" tall.

The black pompom on top of her head changes her facial expression when you twist it!

23/09/2014

I'm not exactly sure how it happened as one search inevitably leads to another and another, but the upshot is, I've found out a couple of things about my tallest girl:

She was made in 1979 by Fun World Toy Company.

Her outfit is definitely her original one.

There are several versions of this outfit available - I've seen at least three other versions made from different patterned fabric and also one cut from yellow fabric.

If I manage to find out anything else, I'll keep you posted...

Watch this space!

  3. Hi! I also have this doll and have never personally seen another one. I searched high and low and can't find out much about her. I did find one on Etsy which was sold and I sent the seller a request today to see if they would share what the amount they sold her. Odds are they wont share but it was worth a try. Can't wait to see an update soon from you. Thanks Sarah Freeman

  4. I know this is MNY years after the original post but....I had this doll as a little girl and so did my sisters. The outfits came in solid colors-mine was green, one isister had red and another had yellow. Definately late sixties. HTH.

  6. I have been going through my collection of dolls and found one with a blue outfit. She is marked on the bottom IWAI INDUSTRIAL CORP MADE IN JAPAN 1973. I guess there are some out there with no markings so I hope this helps.

  8. My daughter was given one for Christmas this past year. Her's has is red with flower print and white trim. The Doll only has the Hong Kong marking on her back. I recall seeing them for sale in Walmart as a child. They were sold at around $5-$10.

  11. Hi Anon,
Sorry for the late reply, I got side-tracked by illness and a Covid test... all clear thankfully, but anyhoo back to your comment...
Thank you for the info, I looked into Whimsie dolls a few years back because I also have a ceramic 3 face doll which looks a bit like Hedda Getta Bedda, unfortunately she isn't one of them, and none of these are by Whimsie but I'm sure they must have been based one them, so are likely clone dolls made cheaper by different companies to ride the trend.
As I wasn't around back when Whimsie's were originally on the market, I can't say for definite if they were in big demand, but if so it would explain why these smaller versions were made.
Thank you for visiting, and for your comment.
    Take care,
