Proof MGA really do care!

I originally posted these screenshots up on Flickr when I discovered this awesomeness and have sadly only just rediscovered this post in my Drafts Folder waiting to be posted here - some four years later!

 *Sigh*

I guess it's possible there are some people who were not aware of this, so in that case... Better late than never!

Travelling on the web the other day I found www.bratz.com...

Screenshot, Bratz website
Intrigued by the "Bratz Won" logo in the bottom right of the screen and knowing it's obviously
about the battle that was raging with Mattel a while back...I clicked it and ...

... I found this!

bratz.com screenshot 2

A nice little message from those friendly people over at MGA ... Thanking their fans!!

How cool is that?!

I gotta say they've really gone up in my estimation most big companies don't ever bother saying thank you to their fans like that ..

-:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-•* Bratz Genie Magic Sasha Doll *•-:¦:-•:*'''''*:•-:¦:-

I don't really know much about this line of dolls, as I found her by accident one day, and have never seen the Bratz Genie Magic film but I do know... She's so cool even has Henna tattoos down her arms, hands and on her feet!

The truth is I'm not that much of a Bratz fan, I find their lips a little too "bee stung" and I really dislike the feet thing also some of their clothes are downright
slutty.

But every so often I spot one that I just fall in love with - this little lady was one of those, it didn't hurt that she has dark skin either I'm a bit of a sucker for non caucasian dolls.

http://www.amazon.com/

She would have originally come with a Crystal Ball and Arabian style lamp with a magic 8 ball style fortune telling device inside as well as a change of clothes and some gold jewellery, hairbrush etc.

www.ebay.au
As part of this range MGA also produced a Genie Magic Bottle / lounge which to this day I still covet, it has a sliding transparent red door with which to seal it and stop your Genie from escaping and when complete it has cushions and a hanging lantern  inside and a drawer below in which to store her jewels and other bits and bobs.

Maybe one day I'll get around to making her roomier version of a bottle to laze about in. The official one looks a little cramped which is kind of weird if you consider that it's designed for 10 inch dolls, is called a "lounge" and when originally sold came with a Katia doll shown sitting inside it...

Ah well that's it for now.
Take care,

☆ ✔ MGA, Mattel & Hasbro - Raising Awareness Through Toys ✔☆

True Hope Bratz - www.toyworldmag.co.uk

I spotted these dolls towards the end of  last year, and have to say I love the fact that MGA and also Mattel have come on board and launched their "Bald Beauties" - although strangely Mattel's  Bald  Barbie is only being launched as an "Exclusive" available through Hospitals in the US and Canada only - that's pretty sad, but perhaps it will change soon (call me a cynic but I'm sure keeping an eye on MGA's "True Hope" sales will most probably change this!) more of Mattel's version coming up below, but first... a "True Hope Bratz" billboard...

www.thebigtoybook.com

MGA's "True Hope" range of 6 dolls, is available and quite easy to find on the shelves of Toys R Us stores in the USA, Canada & the U.K. MGA promise that for every doll sold, they will donate $1 to the City of Hope, here's an idea of what this charity do (quotes taken from their website)  "On our park-like campus just northeast of Los Angeles, researchers advance ideas into discoveries, physicians bring emerging therapies to patients, and students learn to transform the landscape of modern medicine – all supported by the generosity of philanthropists from across the country."

City of Hope is a research institution they receive no Government funding for their research and have this to say about themselves and their aims: "An independent biomedical research, treatment and education institution, we are a leader in the fight to conquer cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases."

https://www.facebook.com/BeautifulandBaldBarbie

What is really surprising about these dolls is that they actually started off as an idea, that lead to a Facebook page and a petition - the Toy Companies saw the demand (likes = possible sales!) they took the idea on and started to produce these dolls, the Facebook Movement started with Barbie in mind, but Mattel stated they do not take toy ideas from Customers (way to go Mattel!) although they certainly changed their minds and went back on those words, after MGA took to the idea and made their "True Hope Bratz" range - hardly surprising!

What is surprising though is that while MGA made their dolls for the mass market and therefore available to everyone, Mattel have placed restrictions on theirs and I really can't think of one reason why they would do so, especially as the Bratz range has proved the market is there.

The photo above was taken from the Facebook page that started it all, they've since changed the display picture to one showing the "True Hope Bratz Dolls" if you'd like to connect with them on Facebook, you can do so here: https://www.facebook.com/BeautifulandBaldBarbie  or go to their "Sister Page" by clicking this link: http://www.facebook.com/TheBeautifulAndBaldMovement

On the 4th February this year, The Beautiful and bald Barbie Facebook page made an announcement - Mattel had finally come on board and launched not a Barbie Doll as requested but the next best thing - a Bald Barbie Friend called Ella, who comes with a wig which she's wearing and a separate wig and head scarf as well as a couple of other items...

These dolls have been donated to the National Alopecia Areata Foundation for distribution (in an unknown quantity) and are available for a limited period (while their donated stock last), the cool thing is, the National Alopecia Areata Foundation have announced this online, along with a form for you to order, if preferred, they have also included a PDF form so you can print  fill in and send to them instead ( I'd advise this option only if you live in the US or Canada, as Air mail obviously takes a lot longer to reach them, and with limited stocks, you may miss out if you apply via this option).

http://www.naaf.org

Photo of "Ella" above was taken from the National Alopecia Areata Foundation website and the link to the application forms page is available here: //www.naaf.org/site/PageServer?pagename=BarbiesBaldFriend

The following information is included on that page:  http://www.naaf.org/site/PageServer?pagename=BarbiesBaldFriend

"Mattel has generously donated a select quantity of the “Ella” doll to the National Alopecia Areata Foundation (NAAF), which we are making available to children with alopecia areata. ages 3 -17.

As supplies are limited, we are making “Ella” available on a first-come first-served basis, and can only offer one doll per child with alopecia areata.

“Ella” is not available in stores. Mattel has expressly made “Ella” to be played with and enjoyed, not resold on-line. Any resale may result in legal action."

NOTE: NAAF was not involved in any way, in the development or packaging of the Ella doll. Mattel made the determination that Ella would be wearing her wig in the packaging.

According to information on http://www.beautifulandbald.com/bald-dolls-updates : "Mattel plans to make a one time production of 10,000 bald "friend of Barbie" dolls. They will be donated and distributed through Children's Hospitals, The National Alopecia Areata Foundation and CureSearch."  It's a good start but I'm hoping they do roll out these dolls so that they become available for everyone through Toy Stores or even just online.

Another company which recently was petitioned via a Facebook Campaign is Hasbro; this time for a bald version of "G.I Joe" (or even "Action Man" in the U.K - I'm guessing).  The facebook page dedicated to the campaign can be viewed via this link:  http://www.facebook.com/BaldAndBraveGIJoe

I spotted a really interesting announcement dated 24th January 2012, which came as a reply to the Page Admin's request that the above toy be considered for manufacture, it was too long for a screenshot so I've had to chop it in two...

What I find really cool about this post/ reply / Hasbro, is; firstly that they had  already designed and began manufacturing a Bald Headed "Super Hero" versions of the doll and not only that, at the bottom of this message they included an image of the "special edition STAR WARS R2-KT ASTROMECH DROID figure" they produced in 2007, to "drive awareness and raise money for cancer research." The links they included take you to an Amazon Page where you can view / purchase the figure ... it's pink btw, and pretty cool, especially if you consider how the idea came about and why it was made, which is also included in the Amazon listing, as follows:

Star Wars: 30th Anniversary Collection Exclusives R2-KT Action Figure:

Product Description:

R2-KT was created in 2005 to honor Katie Johnson, a very special little girl who tragically passed away from brain cancer on August 9, 2005, at the age of seven. Her father, Albin Johnson, is the founder of the 501st Legion, a Star Wars costuming fan club that performs charity work around the world. Katie had a special wish: to visit Walt Disney WorldTM. Through the generosity of the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, Katie's wish was granted. Then one more special dream came true. Katie's sister, Allie, was inspired one day while watching Attack of the Clones, in which R2-D2 watches over the sleeping Padmé. Allie thought how great it would be if Artoo could watch over Katie while she underwent treatment, and for the droid to be named "KT" after her sister. The R2 Builders Club made Allie's idea a reality by creating a unique R2 unit especially for Katie. The 501st Legion approached Hasbro with the idea of producing a figure to commemorate R2-KT.

Product Features:

Franken-Bratz...

This little girl was an experiment in 2009, I'd had I've been thinking for a while that Bratz would be way cooler if they had a Barbie type body with non-removable feet so.....

I tried a little experiment with one of my Bratz and a articulated Barbie Body.

It's not a great skin tone match but the best I could come up with from my box of victims!

I think it works pretty well tho' so well in fact that she's staying like this!

He's gonna have a replacement arm as soon as I go rooting around my "Victims" box lol I'm sure I have a few arms in there!!    He's gonna be a kitsch little lamby *Grin*
She scares me! lol
Donna thinks she may be quite pretty with new hair, a repaint and some new eyebrows...  I have to say I agree, the hair definitely needs replacement and the eyebrows are daft but I'm not sure what I can do about  her hare-lip though??

Funny looking thing lol I'm gonna have to wait a little while for her to tell me what she should be I guess lol

Her hair looks like a disgruntled factory worker looked at it, wanted to add more but then thought meh forget it, they aren't paying me enough!!

She'll be fun..when I get some inspiration, I'm sure.

BRATZ BABYZ Just got a whole lot cooler!!! **Dolly Update**

Sapphire &  Ruby - Ooak Bratz Baby Cyber Goth Doll (Twins)

Sapphire:
Her face was stripped of factory features and re-painted using acrylic paint, then sealed.

The moulded plastic hair was painted black and given cobalt blue highlights then sealed.

The dress was hand sewn from a pattern designed by myself.

Dread falls were made using a mixture of synthetic human hair extensions and brown spun yarn and unspun blue fleece.I added Black"nail varnish to her hands and feet, which was ten sealed then I hand-made sliver dice and black beaded earrings to finish off her look
 RUBY:
produced in the same way as Sapphire.

The Only real difference between the two, apart from colour choices and eye paint is Ruby has 3 bunches at the back of her head.

Close up of Dice earrings, worn by both dolls

The Dread falls on each doll were placed in the holes from which the factory moulded bunches were removed.

I hand-made sliver dice and black beaded earrings to finish off her look, and I have to admit I like her so much more now I have made her this outfit, I don't think the other one worked at all well on her.

I'll show you more pictures of her and her twin soon!

BRATZ BABYZ Just got a whole lot cooler!!!

I found 2 of these Bratz Babyz on my travels, one had no hair pieces - such a stupid idea making them removable - why did MGA do this?

Unless you were able to swap and change these with different styles etc, it seems to daft to me, but I digress, the other girl had one out of the three she should have had...

While I was checking them over and deciding if I want to take them home with me or not, by now the idea I could most likely sell them on had taken hold... my Muse appeared and showed me what they could become, so of course I bought them both, took them home and began work with a bit of artistic tweeking.

At the time I was very new to the idea of customising, but as the three-bunch girl had issues with her eye transfers, I decided she would be a good place to start, but oddly i didn't start with her as I'd already had some ideas for little miss two bunch and so...

I removed her eye make up and replaced it with "Snakes Eyes", then I started on her hair, adding cobalt blue streaks, by this time I'd already decided I was going to buy some blue dyed wool yarn and give her some CyberGoth style Dread Falls!
I finished the first one today...(the original is on the right of the above image) and couldn't wait to show her

The hardest part was making some clothes for her, but I decided to add onto her t-shirt (the only item of clothing she came to me with) and made a skirt, and some lace arm warmers.
I'm currently working on her twin, and will be posting the pic's just as soon as she's finished. Then I'll continue with my plan to sell th

I made her some earrings (she didn't have any of them either) and some "lipstick" and then, I fell in love with her myself, so the idea of actually selling her on went out the window After all I get a feeling that animal eyed cyber-goth Bratz dolls are kinda rare!!

I gave her "nail varnish" and then coated all the painted areas with several coats of varnish to keep it safe and chip-free.

Check out her dad falls!!

I combined the yarn with some black hair extentions sold for humans, I think it works really well, and I'm quite pleased with the earrings too, but ...

I didn't think the dress worked very well at all, and so I made a pattern, then made them both some new dresses.

But I'll tell you about that, and show you both the completed dolls in a later post!
