18 inch Ozzy Osbourne Bark Moon Limited Edition Doll by Fun 4 All Collectables and Art Asylum (1999)

If you've been reading my blog for any length of time you may already be aware of a post I made back in December 2012, when I discovered the Ozzy Osbourne Bark at The Moon Doll.

Reading back over that post, I guess it's not readily apparent that at the time I didn't actually own the doll, although I really wanted it, I just couldn't afford it at that time. If you'd like to reread that post you can find it here: ♪ Ozzy Osbourne Bark Moon Limited Edition Doll ♫. All that changed in May, this year, when I finally managed to track down and purchase one for myself.

I have to say he was definitely worth the wait, he is every bit as awesome as I thought he was when looking at the images I found online and posting about my discovery 6 years ago!

I know it sounds stupid considering the doll itself is 18 inches tall but I was honestly quite surprised by the size of the box he arrived in.

He came to me sealed so I had the pleasure of being the first person since the factory to hold him... I discovered he is oddly very cuddly for a heavy mostly plastic werewolf with big spiky claws and pointy teeth!

His legs are moulded in a semi crouch position from hard plastic which gives him a sturdiness which allows him to stand without toppling over.

His body is soft, moves at the waist and his arms are fur coated plastic which move very easily up and down for posing. Although his head doesn't move at all.

The inner of the box slides out to allow access to the figure which is secured to a plastic insert and a background printed with images of Ozzy Osbourne from various stages of his career.

This is made of good quality sturdy cardboard and once the doll is removed from the moulded plastic casing, he can be placed standing on top of the base which the "Ozzy" images behind him.

To further secure the figure when out of his box he comes with two moulded plastic foot stands which his feet can be placed into.

He also comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, which his housed inside a white envelope behind the Ozzy patterned backdrop inside the box.

I really like the attention to detail on his certificate, which also makes it difficult to copy if a company did decide to do a knock off version that is.

It has images of a weird little angel thing which corresponds to the images on the outside of his box and the number out of 50,000 which this doll is.

Unfortunately as he had been sitting in his box for a number of years with the batteries inside his body, they have like most old batteries left inside a toy, leaked making his voice box unusable at the present time.

I will be cleaning up his battery pack and repairing and damage if necessary, so I can test if it does still work, but sadly like most things on my to do list it has to wait for now... Not that I really mind, if I want to hear the song, I can always get out my vinyls and whack it on the record player or play the cd so no big whoop.

I definitely recommend this figure to anyone who loves Ozzy and has a large spot on a shelf which could benefit from having a cool arse doll sitting on it!

♪ Ozzy Osbourne Bark Moon Limited Edition Doll ♫

"From Art Asylum comes this collectible doll in the Ozzy Osbourne toy-line!"

The package has a press for demo section cut away, so you can try before you buy.

The figure is a limited edition, with 50000 made and distributed for sale, that's actually quite large for a limited run!

The figure stands,18 inches tall, and is highly collectible, due in part to it's limited status  but also due to the quality of the detail on the figure's face, outfit and the box as well!

When pressed the button plays a remixed version of  the song, "Bark At The Moon."

The back of the box contains the following information:

"In 1983 Ozzy Osbourne released "Bark at the Moon". This original dynamic album rocked the world and hit double platinum sales."

In case you are wondering, "Double Platinum Record Sales, means, 2 Million copies of this Album were sold!

I also love the fact that under the title: "Inmates" it lists the following information:-

"Sculpted by Paul Komoda and Jose Rodriguez based on the make-up and special effects of Greg Cannom. Designed in conjunction with Art Asylum."

I have to say, I love that touch, so many times when I have held dolls and figures in my collection, I have wondered who the Sculptor and Designers were and whether they minded being never being associated with the figures and remaining unknown to the people who love and collect the items they had such a large part in the creation of!

The figure was released in 1999 by Fun 4 All Collectibles.

Come to think of it, I really have to find out what else they've produced as if this one is an idea of the quality to expect from this company, they will definitely be worth checking out!

This photo's rights belong to
killen-enterprises, who is currently offering this item for sale on Ebay.
(Please note, the Seller's name when clicked provides a link to their Ebay listing for this item).

The figure has been sculpted to resemble the cover of Ozzy' 1983 "bark at the Moon" album cover sleeve, which you can compare with the images of that cover, and the back cover's artwork, below :

Ok, so these are CD Cover pictures, that's only because it would be a pain for me to take out my vinyl  photograph it, then upload it for the purpose of this post, not that I really think that matters as the artwork is exactly the same in both cases!

This  promo photo, shows make up better...

Photo Found on Google Images.
The weird thing about this figure, is I have always found the Ozzy make up and cover for this album, more miss than hit... not only does it feel very contrived to me, but the make up job is really not very good...

I mean, Presumably he is a werewolf, judging by the fur and the name of the album, back photo pose... but what then, has happened to his nose, and why do I always think Nosferatu when I see it?

Anyway that doesn't matter because this figure is just so cool, I mean just look this figure, the attention to detail is exquisite, the costume he's wearing is spot on, the packaging looks great and is very informative, giving a history of the character / inspiration for the figure as well as the songs lyrics and information about the figure itself.

I have a soft spot for Werewolves, always have had, since my childhood, and I guess that is part of the reason why this figure appeals to me... also, I really love the detail on his hands, the pose they are holding is to my mind, perfect.
